On Thursday March,19th2015, during 9-12 am,the Rajanukul Institute held the 2015 World Down Syndrome Day celebration at Shin Soponpanich meeting hall which is located at the fourth floor of Out Patient Building.The activities began with the opening of “The Miracle of down Syndrome Group” which was founded by Mom Ann,Ms. KesureebhaRatanapansri, the chairman of the group. Also joined by Mr. SuchartOwatwannasakul,the Chairman of theAssociation for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities of Thailand,who came to tell about the history group foundation and encouraged Down Syndrome parents. In the event, there were many shows from Down Syndrome children as well as developmental stimulation activities demonstrated for them.
Shokaew,ChanitaThamthatpimol, performed 5 songs using dulcimer and Dance “Jerking from the wind”.
There also was a lecture in the topic of the Rights of the disabled people by Ms.Nantapak Pongsook, the social worker senior professional level, from Right Promotion and Disabled People Welfare Division, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Welfare Development and Human Security.
There was a panel discussion concerning the topic “The dynamic Down Syndrome movement” by the experts in the field of child development and invited speakers.(From the left) 1. Mr. SuchartOwatwannasakul, the Chairman of the Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities of Thailand 2.Ms. Rosalina Alexander McKayfrom the Rainbow Room Foundation 3.Ms.Maturot Raktaprajit, the Partner Resources Director of Starbuck Coffee Thailand 4.Ms.Samran Chamchoi from National Sport Director of Special Olympics Thailand 5. Dr.NoppawanSriwongpanich, the deputy director of Rajanukul Institute. The discussion was run by Ms.Suangmon Sittisaman, the editor of Mother & Care Magazine.
In this event, the Rajanukul Institute emphasized on parents’ psychological care and empowering parents’ family network of Down Syndrome children because it’s the most important factor to achieve the successful treatment and rehabilitation.
Child development needs the continuous promotion from the birth to heir teens thus leading them to establish their own careers and be self sufficient . These factors allow people to live with the others in society equally.
