On Monday 28 March 2016, Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability of Thailand and networks cooperated with associate networks organized fashion show “The Face of Down” as a campaign activity for 2016 World Down Syndrome Day at Siam Square One shopping mall. Mr.Suchart Owatwannasakul, President of Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability of Thailand, made a report speech to Mr. Maitri Inthusut, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Social Development and Human Security on the opening ceremony. On Monday 28 March, 2016 during 9 to 11 am, Mr.Teerapat Lertsiriprapa, the owner of Kouen Sushi Bar Japanese restaurant, Siam Square One branch gave privilege for children with Intellectual and Development Disability aged 6-15 years old from Rajanukul Institute and also give privilege to people with with Intellectual and Development Disability from Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability of Thailand. On 17th March, 2016, Rajanukul Institute and Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability of Thailand made a press release on the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day which matched with the 21st March of every year. This event was intended to enhance understanding of potential and success of people with Down Syndrome all over the world. The director general of Department of Mental Health, Dr.Jedsada Chokdamrongsuk, stated that every 21st of March is the World Down’s syndrome Day to make people understand the potential and success of people with DS. On Wednesday 9th, 2016 at 9.30 am Prof. Emeritus Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsattayatorn, Minister of Public Health honorably granted the certification for those organizations that have been qualified for hospital accreditation (HA). Many children with intellectual disability lack of opportunity and readiness for education; therefore, Rajanukul Institute ;Department of Mental Health, initiates cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Kumamoto University by signing MOU in human development of 68 staff who are responsible for providing service for children with intellectual and developmental disability in Thailand. Thursday 11th February 2016, from 9.00 a.m.to 11.00 a.m, Department of Service; Rajanukul Institute held a training “ Music Therapy” in order to empower parents andRajanukul staff on taking care children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (children with IDD) at Shin Soponpanich meeting room which is located on the 4th floor of out patient building. It was an honor to welcome Ms.Saowanee Sungkasopon, an expert in Music Therapy, to give a lecture and demonstrate making simple music instruments from waste materials such as drinking bottles with sand, plastic bags with sand. On Saturday 9th January,2016 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Rajanukul Rehabilitation Center (Bangpoon) and Department of social work joined “CP Land Share Happiness & Make Income for Disadvantaged Children” at CP Tower2 ; Fortune Town which is located on Ratchadapisek Road in Bangkok. In this event, there was a demonstration of dish washing soap production, and selling products made by children with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as Decoupage baskets, high concentration dish washing soap, liquid detergent, herbal toothpaste, etc. The purposes of this event were to enhance the children’s social skills, and provide their income in order to alleviate their families’ burden.

On Wednesday 6th January, 2016 during 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, 40 children with intellectual and development disability from Rajanukul Institute and Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability of Thailand joined the project “2016 AIS Sweet Smile Children’s Day”supported by Advance Wireless Network Company Limited under Advance Info Service Public Company Limited (AIS) which was a gifts for Children’s day. On Sunday 27th December, 2015 during 9 a.m. to 12 a.m., the department of social welfare held a StoryTelling for Therapy activity for the second time of its 7th year project at Shin Soponpanich Hall at the 4th floor of the Out Patient Building. During 23rd-24th November, 2015, Rajanukul Institute held a meeting to clarify the research project “Development of a model of child development promotion in normal developmental children from newborn to 5 years old” and to train “Reinforcement of the attachment between caretakers and children through 4 activities: eating, hugging, playing and storytelling” at Hi Residence Hotel Bangkok. On Thursday 3rd December 2015, during 8.30-12.00 am., Dr.Amporn Benjaponpitak, the Director of Rajanukul Institute, received a plaque which was given to organizations that work for disabled people or any other organizations providing services to disabled people that were certified at an excellent level of the year 2015, from Police General Adul Saengsingkaew, the Social Development and Human Security Minister at Jubillee Ballroom ,Impact Challenger, Muang Thong Thani. On Thursday, 15th October 2015, at 11 am., the Advance Info Service Public Company Limited or AIS offered special privilege to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and Rajanukul staff in watching a movie, The Down : to be an ordinary person is too easy! There were 158 seats available at The Embassy Diplomat Screens theatre at Central Embassy shopping center, Bangkok. According to this activity, it was not only letting children and their parents to discuss and share their experiences to one another, but it also provided the children opportunities to practise their social skills. After the film finished, the AIS also treated all of the audiences with very delicious lunches. We would like to thank the AIS for supporting this good activity!

The grade1 students’ IQ-EQ survey conducted by Ministry of Public Health in 2014 revealed that all of the Thai children have normal EQ, but the rural children’s IQ is lower than the one of the urban children.
